Opportunity Grants Program
This is a US Department of State / EducationUSA program run by advisers at the Fulbright Commission offices and the Turkish American Association in Kavaklıdere, Ankara (www.taa-ankara.org.tr).
Students with the potential to get substantial scholarship funding form US schools but need financial assistance in taking the next step towards a US education are eligible.
Turkish Opportunity Grantees last year were offered over 2 million US Dollars in total first year financial aid by US universities.
Applicants from all academic levels who intend to pursue a degree can apply for assistance with expenses related to the US school application process such as all or some of the following:
- Test preparation classes (TOEFL/ IELTS / SAT / GRE / GMAT),
- Test fees or TOEFL / IELTS vouchers,
- School application fees,
- Postage expenses,
- SEVIS/visa fees,
- Travel to US
- One-time settling in allowance.
EducationUSA advisers thank ETS (TOEFL) and the British Council (IELTS)
for providing some OG Grantees with test vouchers.
Once a student is selected, the EducationUSA advisers work with students to locate financial aid from US schools, associations or other sources in Turkey. Applications are submitted online to the Fulbright offices or the Turkish American Association as noted on the application form.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis at any point during the application process.
The Application Form can be downloaded here.
The Follow up Form for students approved for an OG to cover plane ticket and visa expenses can be downloaded here. Remember that your plane ticket must be purchased from an American carrier for it to be funded by the OG Program.
